When NOT to Automate a Business Process
Do not automate a process that is rare, constantly changing, poorly understood, or one where the human interaction is the value your customers pay for.
Fix a broken process first
Automating a messy process produces a faster mess. Simplify the steps, then automate.
Rare or volatile work
If a task happens twice a year or the rules change monthly, the cost of building and maintaining automation usually outweighs the benefit.
Relationship work
Some conversations should stay human. Automate the admin around them instead.
